No Code Transfers: Access Instant Payments With No Engineering Work

Written by Bryan McCarty | Jul 15, 2024 1:15:05 PM

Orum recently launched Deliver, our unique money movement solution that optimizes payments for speed and efficiency by using a new direct connection to the Federal Reserve’s payment rails as a service provider. Our customers go live in 2 weeks or less, and we handle all the complexity — helping you save the 2 years and $2 million it typically costs for a bank integration.

We’ve also heard from some of you that your dev resources are constrained, but you want access to instant payment capabilities immediately.

Maybe your engineering sprints are planned for the next few quarters. If you don’t want to pull resources from current efforts, No Code Transfers is a great option as a way to get access to newer, faster payment rails immediately.

So, what is No Code Transfers and how does it work? Let’s dive in.

What is Orum’s No Code Transfers Solution?

Our No Code Transfers solution lets you access instant payments, as well as ACH, without touching Orum APIs. This means you can start using instant payments and go live without writing a single line of code. We’ll then work with you to connect to our API to access all payments rails (RTP, FedNow, Same Day ACH, Wires, and instant bank account verification) when your product and engineering roadmap allows.

How Do No Code Transfers Work?

Orum customers can initiate instant payments through the Orum Portal by uploading a Nacha file. With a few clicks, you can send transfers, review statuses, and generate reports — no engineering work required.

What is a Nacha file? And how does it work with Instant Payments?

You likely associate a Nacha file with ACH, but we’re doing something much better than passing a file along. But first, let’s answer: what is a Nacha file?A Nacha file is 94 characters long and structured as alphanumeric ASCII text. It is formatted in a digital envelope and contains important payment instructions that trigger a batch of ACH payments

Instant payments leverage a similar set of instructions. Because of this, we’ve built smart logic that takes your Nacha file, reads the payment instructions, and initiates transfers based on the selected rail. Your Nacha file never leaves Orum — our system simply uses it to read the payment instructions and send payments based on your rail choice.

Our technology determines whether accounts in the file are not eligible for instant payments. For accounts that are not eligible, our No Code solution automatically falls back to Same Day ACH or ACH to give you payment speed and payment certainty.

How Does Orum Safeguard No Code Transfers?

With No Code Transfers, we’ve put safeguards in place to make sure your payments run smoothly:

  1. File Validation: Every file upload automatically passes through our Nacha file validator. If something isn’t right, we’ll show you an error message so you can fix the issue and upload a new file.

  2. Approval Workflow: This optional feature requires any Nacha file uploaded to first be approved by another user on your team before processing begins to give you approval layers.
